Both the Pack and Lions are young, loaded with talent and seem to have the front office (Packers proven, Lions yet to be seen) to keep it going in that direction.

Yep, took many years to compete with the Lions.

Bison-Vikes #1 wrote:I thought this thread would be fun to bring back to the top. I for one did not think the Vikes could win the division in less then 2 years. For them to do so, would have to at least:
1. Get a general manager (which they did).
2. Fill some old positions with good, young talent (which they did).
3. Groom a qb (verdict still out but looking good).

I am still leery in drinking the "purple" kool aid, but man they are fun to watch again. Still sitting there weekly at the end of the games, thinking they will screw it up but they haven't. A number of posters on this thread mentioned how it was possible for the Vikes to turn it around in a short time. I really didn't think it could happen unless the things mentioned above and quite frankly a lot of other things fell into place. It seems this year, they are not making all the stupid mistakes and shooting themselves in the foot. Or, even though they have, they have not imploded afterwards. Maybe drafting character and smarter players is starting to pay off. Also, if you list the Vike's players, there has always been plenty of "star power", but they seem to be doing and saying all the right things. Maybe Frasier is the coach of the future for the Vikes. GO VIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went back and brought this thread to the top in October to admit that I didn't think the Vikes could turn it around in such a short time. Let's see, should we go back and look at some of your statements? PS - They still weren't competing for a division title either.

Flip wrote:The Chiefs could easily win the AFC West next year with the return of their best defensive and offensive player and their starting QB.

As far as the Lions and Packers being certain locks to win the division by some posters for the next couple years. You never know what's going to happen. Rodgers isn't completely injury free, he broke his foot the first game he ever played. He missed a game with a concussion last season. If their offense slips a little next season and their defense remains one of the leagues worst they could struggle to win the division.

Stafford is one of the most injury prone QBs in the league. In his first 2 seasons he missed 6 more games than he played.

Cutler isn't as great as some posters are making him out to be either. Plus he's hurt all the time.

Remember prior to this season when the Eagles were supposed to win the east? That could happen to any team.

Obviously, looking back that comment looks ridiculous, but if Manning hadn't signed with the Broncos I don't believe anyone would have been surprised had they won the division.

It just goes to show that almost anything can happen in the NFL. The Colts will probably be the favorite next year to win their division.

I'd love to see it. The stress level I would have going through 3 playoff games and the SB might be enough to kill me.

Chiefs worst team in the league last year now 7 weeks into the next season best record in the NFL (probably still underdogs to win their division). Colts worst team 2 years ago and now heavy favorites to win their division.

Who knows Jags draft Teddy Bridgewater, they might be fighting for a playoff spot in a couple years.

The Chiefs are doing it with a QB that was considered washed up, booed by SF fans, free agent his last 2 years at SF only to restructure his contract to remain. All the "experts" stated that Smith was a bust. Now, he is guiding a 7-0 team. Wonder if it has anything to do with coaching?

Couple of gems from late 2011.

defensewinsgames wrote:Couldn't disagree more. No division except maybe the NFC West has ever been open enough for a team to win in 2 offseasons. The only one who is delusional around here is you. Winner is completely right on this. The Vikings, Rams, Colts, and Jaguars are a long way from winning their divisions.

Since this has been posted the Colts went from #1 overall draft pick to division champs in 2 years. Then the Texans did the same thing in 2 years.

now 2 division titles in 6 years since your prediction.

Also, want to point out the Jags went from 3-13 in '16 to division champs this year. Not too many crazy turnarounds in the past 2 years though.

Not too many big swings in record for turnarounds, but look how many teams were picked last in their division in the preseason rankings and now are division champs. NO, Philly, LA Rams, Jacksonville all come to mind

Forgot the Rams were 4-12 last year. Now division champs.

49ers drafted 2nd overall last year and are now the #1 seed in the NFC and 1 game from playing the Super Bowl.

edit:

Flip wrote:Seven years is such a long time in the NFL. You could go from the worst team in the NFL to SB champs back to the worst team in seven years.

The opposite of what I mentioned a few years ago, but interesting IMO.
49ers
2012 - lose in SB
2013 - lose in NFCCG
2014 - 8-8
2015-2018 - last place NFC West
2019 - might be back in the SB

True. Got to believe that Miami is going to have one of these break out years too. So many high draft picks, some pretty good trades. Seemed like Cleveland was trending in the right direction too, but might have missed the boat.
