Well, the Mr. Hockey Candidate has to be a senior. That has just a little bit to do with it. The player from jamestown you mentioned is only a junior. As are the big guns from Grafton-park River. The 2 finalists are already known as they were the WDA and EDC Sr of the year. The other 2 will be named. Meland without a doubt will be 1, so that leaves 1 player. Schaefer (RR), Hooey (FS), Arnason (RR) as you mentioned, it may be 1 of those 3 to fill out the last spot. I do not see it being 3 Grand Forks RR players and 1 player from the west. Even if they did have 3-4 of the best seniors in the state, I don't see that happening, maybe I will be wrong.

Learned something new - thanks for setting me straight. Gotta believe it will be either Meland or Ledoucer.

so now it stands-- the 4th spot is the question mark?

for that spot--Mentioned before: and now maybe added to---

you have the possibles:
Groth-F-F.South
Kline-G-Mandan
Eichle-G-BHS
And maybe Hooey-F-F.South

Any other possibles?

could be a another player form the East like last yr. Don't you think?

so maybe it is Groth or Hooey?
I agree-- they wouldn't have 3 from GFRR

By what I have heard is that Hooey from south wasn't even apart of the All-EDC team mentioned at the conclusion of the EDC tournament. Looks like he was snubbed. I don't think that you can be a Mr. Hockey candidate if you're not even apart of the all confrence team.

That's a shame. Good hockey player/athlete. Hooey plays 3 sports I think.

By claiming you have the inside source so people will keep asking who? If you have your "insider" information, good for you. I suppose you knew Herbel was winning it last year also.

*Pleas dont start any fighting around here.

I don't even think the coaches that voted for him thought Herbel would win it last year.

Don't make it personal gfhockey, no reason to.
Plus, we all know that everyone swaps sides when the team you like not cool and the other is winning. (IE the Patriot bandwagon before they lost the SB)

gfhockey- well that is pretty cool. hope you can keep it a secret.

OK-- so we got the three--
Ladoucer
Labare
Meland

My guess is that the 4th player does come from the east.

I did know Hooey wasn't on the All-EDC Team.
And the EDC does not pick an All Tourney team(like the WDA)

But that cuts down the selection some. If you all think that NOT being All-Conf. is a sign that you are not considered in the Candidate stage of Mr. Hockey.

So If not Hooey? then Groth is probably the leading player for that 4th spot.

He sure played well Sat. Eve vs. GFC. Was a part of at least 3 of the 4 goals put up by South, in a Must win situation.

then looking out here: WDA players.
the only ones that come to mind that could be up to that level--
Kline-Mandan goalie and Eichle-BHs goalie

Since Labare is already a selection, maybe the lean would be to Kline(since if you looked at Eichle-also BHS???) then you would have-- Two from GFRR and Two from BHS....?????? Not likely, anyone want to add to that?

My lean is towards F.South-Groth

here is the List sioux4ever posted-- I think it was back on this thread in Mid Dec.

probably about Dec., 17-18th.... *** I am

West Candidates IMO
Kovacs-Dickinson, good goalie, played well even on a weaker team in the past.
Seeberg-BHS, looks like he is leading his team in points
LaBere-BHS, from all accounts sounds like a solid d-man.
Rehak-Williston, lots of talk about this kid for a couple of years now, seems like a strong candidate
Martin-Mandan, season was cut short last season I believe it was posted on here, look for a strong sr. season.

East Candidates IMO
Meland-RR, not much has to be said about him that you haven't already read on here
Schaefer-RR, putting up good points
Groth-South, not a lot of publicity in the past, see how his sr season goes
Powers-South seems to have the tools to be a strong player
Hooey-South strong player on a strong team
LaDouceur-RR probably one of the best defensemen around, maybe overlooked due to the talent at RR?
Galbreath-RR same as above for LaDouceur...?

Well Ok- sioux4ever gets the stuffed animal for his listing. you did well.
Have Ladoucer on here: NOW as of Feb. 16th EDC Player of Year.
Have Meland on here: shoe in from the beginning (leading pts in state)
Have labare on here: was a darker horse in the race, but emerged as a front runner. Now WDA player of the year.
NOw the Question to be answered-when Sat eve at the Ralph. Who is the 4th?
I am pretty sure this list above has the name also--- highlighted ones(i am doing) are not the 4th.

It will be a fun Tourney. Can't wait to get there early and watch every game I can.
Will not however be attending many of the girls games. just no time, maybe see a couple.

Good luck to the Candidates-- whoever they are. play hard and have FUN!
Go North Dakota prep hockey!

the 4 finalists are annunced--

they are as some expected-- the top three which were discussed here, and the 4th selection was from the west.
think this was probably a toss up between the East guy and West's-Rehak.
good for Rehak!

here is the posting on the ND HS Website--

Colby Rehak #8 D 5'10" 186 Williston
Rehak has played varisty since 8th grade and has led the Coyotes Defensemen in scoring for the past three years. He was named to the N.D. All-State team last year and has been named All-West Region the past three years.

Eric Meland #16 F 6'0" 180 G.F. Red River
Meland is the states leading scorer this season and has led the Riders in team scoring the past two seasons. As a Jr. Meland was the Riders team MVP and was also honored with All-East Region, All-State and was the State Tournament MVP last year. He led his High School Elite team this fall in scoring. He will join the Lincoln Stars of the USHL following the state tournament. Meland is a 4.0 student.

Jared LaBere #21 D 6'3" 195 Bismarck High
LaBere was named Outstanding Senior for the West Region last weekend. He was named All-West Region the past two seasons. LaBere had 9 pts as a Sophomore, 19 pts as a Junior and currently has 5-G 16-A for 21 pts as a Senior. LaBere has been not only a steady defenseman for the Demons but he also is an offensive threat as well.

Ryan LaDouceur #2 D 5'11" 165 G.F. Red River
LaDouceur is a three year letter winner and has been named captain the past two seasons. He leads the defensemen in the state in scoring with 6-G 36-A for 42-pts. He also ranks 6th overall in the state scoring amongst all players. As a Jr. he was named All-East Region, All-State and All-Tournament and as a Sophomore he was named All-East Region. He was named East Region Outstanding Senior Award Winner and also given All-East Region honors. LaDouceur has been drafted by the Lincoln Stars of the USHL.

These 4 players represent the game well.
the Top four as well as the others that were close in votes all had nice bios.

the winner will be a good choice-- especially since they all are quality.

No gripes here.

I'm not that aware of LaBere's ability due to my lesser exposure to the west teams, but I think the 4 candidates are well qualified also. I also like the 2 West 2 East candidate setup, just so there isn't a mixup with voting abuse for an excuse this year as to who wins. GL to all the candidates in earning their reward.

As he should. he is (in my opinion) the Best player in the State. Scoring is tremendous.

do not think either West player is on that same level, in anyways.

Rehak played good last night vs. south.
Labare played OK vs. North.

Ladoucer and Meland played excellent for GFRR vs the lesser opponent.

I was surprised to see Meland and Ladoucer and the first liners, still playing PP deep inot the 3rd period.

Ya I know it is the State tourney and every goal counts. but they had that game won anyways.

got to keep them going I guess.

They sure put the PP goals in.

good luck to the boys up for the Crown. like I said before they are all good candidates.
