No Brainer Central!! They will be better than RR last year. Undefeated? In ND they will be. There will be a lot of ugly games. Maybe RR or Bismarck can give them a game? Just my opinion. Maybe a Fargo team might put up a fight?

Bismarck 24 Hazen/Beulah 1. Why didn't they send their JV? Isn't that what they usually do? I think it is time to look at an A/AA High school system. Take the Hazen, Beulah , Bottineau ,Rugby,Park River, Grafton Programs and add the JR gold schools Langdon, Mayville, Crosby, Watford city, Richland . Then you have a class that will compete year in and year out with each other for a state championship. And actually have a shot. I think it would grow hockey at the lower levels when these programs have their own HS teams.

Not only that but one kid Pladsen scored 10 with no assists. Just reinforces my dislike for Peluso.

BHS the last few years anyways has played the first game at Hazens home rink for 6 points and then when Hazen goes to BHS they play their JV. Last year BHS Varsity won 9-0 against Hazen and BHS JV lost 5-1. It would be nice to see a two class system. Would funding be an issue at all for some of those JR Gold programs to move to a HS program?

While Grafton - Park River has been down the past two years, the program has probably been the most successful outside of the Grand Forks schools. They most recently finished 2nd in the East during the 2013-14 season, but missed state. Grafton (with / without Park River) has been to state 47 times, won 5 state titles, and has been runner up several times (most recently 2011, 12, and 13). Jamestown JUST beat Grafton after decades of being on the losing end. Putting Grafton with schools like Langdon, Mayville, Hazen, Bottineau, etc... would be a horrible move for a number of reasons.

Grafton can stay AA if they want. Park river will get THEIR HS team back. Only reason Grafton has won since 78 is PR!!! 85 was GPR! Hockey costs too much to begin with. If you have to travel for practices And all the games are in Grafton? Great Job PR for ending the younger years coop.

I'll say Devils lake will give RR a game. WF Grafton PR. Could go either way. Davies Minot Bismarck. My picks Tuesday Devils lake big upset. GPR over WF. I think Devils Lake may be underrated?

Grafton won two, solo titles 78 and 85 and three as GPR (91, 02, 08). Look it up. Also, if you think Park River has added that much to the program, you're wrong. Park River had some decent players on the 91 team, but most of the standouts were from Grafton. The 2002 state championship team was dominated by Grafton players. There were 13 seniors that year and all but two were from Grafton - one grew up on a farm between Grafton and Park River and the other was a transfer from Williston. All the standouts on that team, including Drew Sando (Mr. Hockey), Jesse Lindenberg (Mr. Hockety candidate), etc... were Grafton kids. The 2008 team was carried by Grafton's Chad Demers. Park River has had some great players, but it hasn't been consistent at all. Also, don't forget that the co-op also includes Minto, Drayton, and Cavalier who have also added some talent.

Let's say ND decides to move to a two-class hockey system. It wouldn't just be a Grafton-Park River, Hazen-Beulah, and Bottineau-Rugby splitting up and moving down. You would also see Devils Lake and Jamestown who are also experiencing declining enrollments wanting to move down. Wahpeton would more than likely want to join as would Valley City.

The following list is based on current high school hockey co-ops and schools with Junior Gold programs. Enrollment numbers represent recent 7-10 male enrollments:

Jamestown (Medina, Pingree-Buchanan, Montpelier, Carrington) - 494
Devils Lake (Minnewaukan, North Star, Lakota, New Rockford-Sheyenne) - 438
Grafton - (Minto, Drayton, Cavalier) - 306
Valley City (Maple Valley, Griggs Co.) - 240
Watford City - 204
Wahpeton (not including Breckenridge) - 188
Beulah - 118
Park River (Valley-Edinburg) - 114
Rugby (Rolette) - 105
Hazen - 100
Langdon - 100
Bottineau - 97
May-Port - 72
Divide County (Crosby) - 51

Just a quick question - does anyone know how many Rugby kids actually play hockey for the Bottineau-Rugby co-op? I think creating a new class for the smaller schools is an idea with some merit. I don't think the travel would be any worse than it is now and may actually be better for some of the schools.

Just hand the trophy to GFC now after they dismantled RR. Unless they have a rash of injuries they will walk through the state tourney.

Its funny how Crosby, the smallest school has great numbers in their program. (have had jr gold and won state and competed for it every year) No Co-Op? When Park river started co-op at the pee wee and bantam level the numbers in PR hockey went down. No one wants to travel 30 miles three times a week to bring their kid to practice!. PR and Grafton couldn't agree on a coop this year because Grafton wanted to coop from Termites!! Dumbest idea ever IMO! Keep the HS coop until a class A-AA is figured out. Every PROGRAM IMO should be able to play in the state tournament (pee wees, Bantams) Gives your hockey program an identity. We need to GROW hockey in ND and coops are not the way IMO.

Just quit crying. Or I'll slap you in the head. :) Its not that cold. I think Grafton Park river should practice outside? The wussiest team I've ever seen out of GPR! They should practice outside and let the younger kids get the indoor ice time?
